West Palm Beach

West Palm Beach is located on Florida's Southeast coast on the Atlantic Ocean in Palm Beach County. There are a few cities around West Palm Beach and they usually are referred to as the Palm Beaches. West Palm Beach is actually the oldest incorporated city in South Florida which means there are many interesting areas to explore. While you won't find buildings as old as some in New York City, they are 'old' by Florida standards. The downtown recently went through a period of growth adding new condominium high rises and a new Entertainment District called City Walk. The downtown is not located on the beach and is separated by the Intercostal waterway.

Along with some high end shopping, you will find top rated restaurants and also a growing night club district downtown. An Arts center and museums make for great vacation activities as well. West Palm Beach is also very well known as being home to some of the most wealthy and famous. The Kennedy family has owned a mansion here for years and JFK himself spent time here while in office.

The ocean-front of the city actually consists of hotels, motels and private residences. While you won't find a large number of hotels right on the beach (as you would in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami), there are quite a few beautiful hotels to stay in. The phrase 'quality and not quantity' come to mind. The Breakers is a historic hotel right on the beach and has played a part in many Hollywood Movies. Even if you don't stay at the property, it's worth a visit.

If you have trouble finding the right hotel or condo rental on West Palm Beach, you may want to try Palm Beach Gardens or Riviera Beach. Each are close to the large city and have just as much fun to offer.
